A Summer Capsule Wardrobe

Every summer, I love wearing just a handful of pieces over and over. That way, getting dressed every morning is easy, and packing for trips is even easier. Over the past 10 years, I’ve worn certain Sézane clothes a million times — like, this shirt, these flats, and this jacket — and today, here are six more pieces I’d love to live in this summer…

A Summer Capsule Wardrobe

1. A T-shirt with a twist. I love finding a comfy tee that feels special in some way. This pink number is made from 100% cotton and has scalloped lace at the cuffs. A scooped back is very sexy, and how pretty is this floral one?

2. A mini dress. After a long summer day, nothing feels better than taking a shower and pulling on a clean dress, then heading outside again for olives and chips. Peak life moment every time! This cotton dress is SO lovely – and that back, gahhhhhh. (This also has a gorgeous back.)

3. A pointelle tank. Envision this: It’s a hot summer afternoon, and you throw on a pointelle tank (also in white) and read in a hammock. Or on a towel in the backyard. Or in bed with the fan on.

A Summer Capsule Wardrobe from Sézane

4. A jean skirt (or shorts). This midi skirt would feel so chic at dinners with friends or picking up galette ingredients at the farmer’s market, and this one has a flirty zipper. Finally, cut-offs always look cool and ’70s.

A Summer Capsule Wardrobe from Sézane

5. Strappy sandals. These black ones, made in Portugal, hit below the ankle in the prettiest way, and these would be perfect for summer weddings!

6. A raffia bag. Should we channel Jane Birkin with basket-style bags? This one has even bigger flowers, but even the plain version is gorgeous.

Plus, a few more favorite pieces…

I’ve bought Sezane blouses, shirts, boots, and bags before but find the quality to not match the price. Their items look best online with the lighting and styling. In real life, the clothes and bags are lackluster. Their boots + Jack sneakers were the most painful to wear. I’m trying to sell my Sezane bucket style bags I’ve bought a few summers ago off my hands.

Kim

Hey I saw that old navy is having a huge sale of their cotton gauze stuff. They don’t look as nice as Quince or pact, but honestly, you can’t go wrong with the coastal grandmother aesthetic.

Sasha from Montana

Nancy

I love Sezane but not size inclusive…as an XL even their XXL is too small for me..

Sasha from Montana

Booooo. I hate this. I can’t afford anyways, but this would keep me from shopping there. Some companies just don’t seem to care.

May

My Summer clothes: Anything with three quarter sleeves that covers my upper arms, light weight (crinkly preferred) fabric with a linen look in floral pattern is what I look for. Denim shorts with pockets, linen pedal pushers and cargo pants. I shop for linen pants so I can dye them to match tops.

mado

Dyeing linen pants to match your tops is amazing!

Dottie

Love this idea! I wonder if we could get you and CoJ to collaborate on a post to teach the rest of us how to do it?

Lulu

I wish that these brand sponsored posts would be accompanied by a promo code!

A J

My thoughts exactly!

Sasha from Montana

Since lots of commenters are saying they love a French look, here’s a blog with a very French dressing vibe (ha ha, French FRIES, French TOAST… sorry). I’ve been enjoying the looks very much! In my tank and leggings with hair in a bun, pretending I’m a person who would actually wear all this ;) https://www.mychicobsession.com/

Mandy

Thank you so much! Swoon.

Susan

Ooooh – this is a good one!! Thank you!

Emily L

I hate the trend (not just Sezane, but many other retailers too) of models with no bras. Some of us can’t or don’t want to wear clothes without a bra and I’d just like to see what it looks like as we would wear it!

Sue

It takes all kinds! I am loving it

Kell

I am *dying* to be the kind of confident to go braless, but I just feel so self conscious about my nips! This from someone who no longer removes any body hair. Still, bralessness is my final frontier. Would love a post with advice and support from braless baddies.

Kim

I’m chronically ill with a myriad of problems, fatigue being a big one. I only wear a bra if I have to. I wear tank tops and usually a sweater and no one notices my boobs or nipples.

R Ley

Hmmm. Not sure about this post. I love Cup of Jo for your eye, authenticity and editorial judgment. Have been reading since the beginning and of course accept that spon con is a key part of your model but something about this feels too nakedly transactional. I appreciate that you have overheads but you are also highly profitable. And not sure how many of your original readers will be wearing that pointelle vest! Don’t mean to sound bitter but in the current financial landscape this feels off to me.

JULES

R Ley : maybe COJ is “highly profitable” *because of* their ability and willingness to do “spon con” as you put it. AKA by having some infrequent (once, twice a week?) advertising-ish posts, they are able to offer the entire content-filled website for free, while providing strong benefits to their full-time employees. They have partnered with Sezane for years, this post is not surprising at all. There is always a demographic (or many) for whom something is out of reach, that’s hardly a reason to limit a business revenue.

Mandy

I love these posts. I personally enjoy the different fashion posts. I love Sezane but don’t necessary have the same style as Jo. I often find myself trying something I normally would not but even up loving. I guess not to be rude but why read through the article if you don’t like it. It is a free blog?

mado

Cup of Jo regularly has sponsored posts with Sézane. This post feels very CoJ to me lol. Of all the items here, the pointelle top is probably the only one I would actually consider buying (if I lived in a place where I could get Sézane). It’s so darling.

R Ley

Of course! C of Jo is •obviously• highly profitable because of doing spon con and, as I explained, I’ve been happily reading for many more years than they’ve partnered with Sezane. This post is not surprising. It’s just that, to me, it feels like something carefully agreed with an advertiser rather than something more authentic especially with the extra items at the end. I appreciate that it’s a fine line, one that Jo generally walks brilliantly, and glad you are uncomplicatedly enjoying it.

Annie

I think the best way to approach a post like this if you can’t afford the actual clothes or are not a model shape is to use them as inspiration. None of these styles is so out-there that you cannot find similar on any high street or mall. They are timeless summer basics, easily reproducible by cheaper lines. And if you can afford Sezane, then you are good to go. If you live in the UK, M&S will have items practically identical. Labels are the least attractive part of an outfit. Also: I cut them out, too annoyingly itchy. That must be the reason I do not wear couture.

Nithya

Replying to amplify this very reasonable take, Annie. I personally love the Sezanne posts and find this brand reasonably priced for the quality, but there are loads of brands out there with a similar vibe at different price points. The fun is in the finding.

mado

I lol’ed at the last bit. Love it.

Shoshana

I would love to see a summer capsule wardrobe for the office.

Lexi

Yes!!!

BLE

Seconding this!

Beth A.

Please!

Tracie

Anyone have recs for brown leather sandals that have some cushion, but are sleek and non-chunky looking? Able to wear with a dress. Can’t be very narrow and bonus points if sold in the UK. TIA!

Viktorija

I splurged on a pair of Kiwis this year (made to order in the US! Not sure if they deliver to the UK, but here’s to hoping! 🤞🏼) and I love them! They’re brown, strappy leather sandals, available in a range of styles, and very comfortable.

Kathryn

check out Camper shoes (from Spain and I’m sure you can get them in the UK) – they’re super comfy

Erin

I just purchased the “Dom” sandal from Dolce Vita in dark brown. The straps are thin and flattering but the sole has some gentle heft and a nice cushion. I’m enjoying them so far! Bought to capture the vibe of Ancient Greek sandals without the paper-thin, non-supportive sole.

Denise

Not sure if this is the style you’re going for but I love my Olukais. https://olukai.ca/products/kipea-olu-womens-leather-slide-sandals-sahara

Denise

I love my Olukai Kipe’a olu sandals. Super comfortable, well made, can wear them with anything.

Sadie

I live in these sandals all summer. They are very comfortable for long walks and go well with lots of outfits. They are perfect for https://www.lamourdespieds.com/product/BRENN-SDCOG

Morgan

Literally in Paris aujourd’hui on vacay and on my to-do today or tomorrow is to finally visit Sézane in person and maybe splurge on a top. I have my eye on the lace tank you featured at the bottom. We went to NYC two years ago and similarly making it to sezane for a splurge was on my radar but got bumped from tge itinerary. I love their romantic style and am equally nervous nothing will fit or I’ll leave feeling blue about my body. We shall see but it is a semi-random dream to treat myself to a timeless sezane piece.

Tiffany W

Sezane tends to be a bit cheaper in France than in the US AND you can ask for a VAT tax refund, so you end up getting the same item for a decent discount in Paris. Shop your heart out!!

Tracie

I did this same thing last year and ended up getting the cutest purse that I will love forever.

Kirby

Tiffany, I have never met anyone who actually queued up for the refund! I am probably going to talk about you as thoughI know you, though it will probably go like this – “I know someone who actually got their money back, we should do it… oh you want champagne before we fly, ok”

Morgan

Ok friends! Bought a swoony iconic sezane eyelet blouse and a Jersey wrap dress and yes, prices were less than expected in store. It felt way splurgy and my 15-year old cheered me on in tge dressing room. Long-time fantasy after admiring tge brand for years and undoubtedly wearing these pieces will remind me of this most excellent adventure.

anon

Just bought a pair of red strappy sandals and am now coveting those gold sandals, too. Think I might be going into summer with the (relatively simple) clothes I have and a growing collection of charming sandals. I like that it gives me an excuse to baby my feet, too!

Jenn

If I didn’t have saggy 36DDs, I’d snap up that pointelle tank (or something similar in my price range). I’d live in that everyday if I could!

Nancy

I understand! Cute strappy things are so hard in the summer without a bra, but strapless ones are not awesome. Shout out to ask what do others do?

Midge

Easily sunburned H-cup here and I just wear linen boyfriend button ups all summer. They’re so breezy and I feel fantastic in them. But I’ll wear little cute tank tops in my own house/yard, no complaints from my husband!

Jillian

I have been trying to go braless as much as possible, but I hate a sweaty underboob area, so I’ve been hunting all over for tops with solid but soft built in bras. Old Navy has a couple halter tops that have bras in them this season, and I am a huge fan of Klassy Network (not super into the name, though haha) tops, which all have super supportive cups inside that actually fit my DDD boobs. Also, I really love the bra tops by Jockey that I find for like $12 at my local Marshall’s/TJMaxx–I have them in so many colors, and I wear them all the time.

Mandy

I have saggy 32DDs and I never wear a bra outside of work. Don’t care. My take, if it doesn’t bother me as the braless lady, then why does it matter if it bothers anyone else? Get that pointelle tank, Jenn.

Danielle

I recently purchased a pointelle tank from Old Navy that is actually pretty accommodating to a bra. Like maybe not you sturdiest but I was surprised how little the straps show. https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=884878002&vid=1#pdp-page-content

Kat

Beautiful clothes- love the French girl aesthetic. I appreciate this is an advert, of course you need to make money for your business to pay everyone. I admire that you get the balance right with feeling genuine and not that I’m just being sold to. I read COJ every day and it is my happy place and escapism in an increasingly bonkers world. So Thankyou Jo and team 🙏 What it made me reflect on is how as a woman in her late 40s, who’s curvier these days. With a tum and big boobs and nipples like cocktail sausages after breastfeeding babies for YEARS. Is these styles are no longer for me. I try hard to love and appreciate my changing body. But I have to accept my wearing a pointelle vest sans bra years are over. And that’s ok. If you’re still in that era- appreciate it! I didn’t when I was in it. And it made me wonder how I can embrace this chic Sezanne look in a way I feel powerful and sexy?

Meredith

It’s $$ (similar to Sezane) but I’m feeling similarly about my body and have loved Eileen Fisher pieces. I just got two pairs of cotton pants that are perfect for my changing body and make me feel really great. Sometimes you can find it at Nordstrom Rack! Sizing is generous.

Diana

Hi, fellow peri mama! I’m there with you. I was so cute and had no idea. I bet in 15 years we’ll say the same thing about how we look now ;) But I feel some real power in being less scrutinized by the male gaze. Like I stand taller because youth culture gives me more freedom. Conversely, my husband has said that my confidence as I get older is very sexy. I’m embracing cotton sweaters and linen and jumpsuits (with tank tops, to make going to the bathroom less weird) and easier silhouettes that also allow me to wear a supportive bra. Lots of Quince clothes lately! And Costco, let’s be honest. I can get a vat of hummus, 2 garden hoses, and some comfy joggers all in the same place. Sending you solidarity and a high five!

Rebecca

Agree with Meredith—I am completely in my Eileen Fisher and Garnet Hill era, and I am unapologetic about it. They are beautiful clothes, most made of natural materials and the flowy nature is very appealing to me in this stage of life.

Elena

Yes to this and so kindly said. Amen to tummies, saggy boobs, and cocktail sausage nipples. xo

Dottie

Weighing in here to let you know that our crowd is growing. If we are lucky enough to live to older age and our bodies have changed, we can find comfort and happiness in so many other styles. linen or silk from Eileen Fisher, Quince (or linen blends from Old Navy). I have a few coordinated linen tops and pants from EF (Nordstrom Rack) and a linen skirt that matches those pieces from Quince. I feel great when I wear them. I’m past wearing short shorts and I no longer go braless. One can be wistful for their younger bodies and then go out and find the pieces that make them feel good. I love looking at Sezane’s clothes, but haven’t purchased anything yet. I do try to find similar pieces that I like. I ordered a beautiful Moroccan woven summer bag on Etsy, with a snap-in zippered bag for a reasonable price and I will be feeling so French when I carry it this summer.

Katie

Do you have a link to the top pictured in the thumbnail on the home page? It’s a square cut neck with a floral pattern. The thumbnail on this post itself is different.

Kelsey Miller

Hi Katie! It’s this one, linked in the first section but not pictured. :)

Francesca

I’d fill my closet with Sezane if I could, but even buying it secondhand is $$$. Does anyone have recommendations for similar but more affordable brands (that are still ethically made…not Amazon dupes)?

Aline

For brands that sell in Europe, I would recommend Jan n June, Dariadeh, Hessnatur or Armed Angels for ethically made pieces. Most of them are leaning towards basics / sporty / timeless pieces though to avoid more short-term trends.

Christie

Secondhand is always best, but I generally like Quince if I’m buying new.

Julie

Oh taking this opportunity to ask the comment section for some sandal recs! I’ve been looking for a comfortable pair of sandals (that aren’t too casual, like my birks) for several summers now. Everything has either been so uncomfortable or crappy quality and breaks quickly. Any ideas?!

Wog

I love Vionic! Cute & lots of support

Beverly

Have you looked at beeks or alohas? both have a great range of well made shandals.

Nele

Hello from Germany – I have no idea if these are available in the US, but I bought Melvin & Hamilton sandals (brown leather) 2 years ago and they are SO comfortable and awesome quality. I have always had to buy new sandals each season and these seem to last forever and suit every outfit. I walk the dog with them and go to parties.. Here is a link of a similar pair: https://www.melvin-hamilton.de/products/margaret-2-dolly-tan?variant=56518387958092&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shoppingnonbrand&campaign_id=23328954930&ad_id=787159893320&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23328954930&gbraid=0AAAAADAXdRnG4Od2FEfHeODvXbIbcGCYL&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2tmP2um1lAMVC5poCR0F6ToxEAQYBiABEgImzPD_BwE

Colleen

I can’t wear heels anymore, and birkenstocks have been a life saver, but a few years ago, I got a dressier pair of chacos (I’m not seeing quite the same on their site today, but I’ll link as similar as possible) and I get compliments every time I wear them. Between those two brands, summer shoes are covered for anything I need to go to. I can wear either all day! https://go.shopmy.us/p-58066523

Sarah

Maybe a little casual still, but Chacos makes a leather sandal that I love. Very comfy and looks good with dresses or shorts.. and I can still chase my kid!

Joana

i swear by these! https://www.bokyna.eu they’re all beautiful and the pairs that i have are super comfy!

Cara

Nele- those sandals are sooooo cute! Joana- also super cute! And they come in wide. Appreciate the links

Kate

BARED shoes. Australian company that ships free to the US and also has a popup right now downtown. Out of the box comfortable, my favorite shoes ever! https://baredfootwear.com/

Viktorija

I splurged on a pair of Kiwis this year (made to order in the US!) and I love them! They’re brown, strappy leather sandals, available in a range of styles, and very comfortable.

Julie

Love this community and how you all took the time to answer thank you!!!! (And keep the recs coming). This is why these sponsored posts work. COJ team can get paid but inspire us to talk in the comments and recommend a range of brands, not just the sponsored brand. The best!

Kim

Chacos and Tevas are the most comfortable sandals I’ve ever had. So much so that I sometimes find myself lightly jogging in them. Don’t do that, but do try them. After years of shopping for style I go for comfort.

Sarah

I love Sezane so much, but I’d love to know from anyone else who has some of their high-collared pieces (silk Chlo shirts), how the heck do you keep them make up/sunscreen free? I love to wear mine under a blazer for work, but I’m accidentally rubbing the silk collars and I know I’m not the only one with this problem.

Bobby

Ok, it sounds weird, but it works. I think that this is making the rounds on tic Tok (which I’ve never even looked at), so it might seem suss. But my colorist told me: use hairspray on you collar (do a fabric test first) I use Elnett you can get the unscented version. Spray your collar before you put the top on. It works! I used to get terrible sunscreen residue on my collars, I don’t anymore!

venetia

I rely on Grandma’s Secret Stain remover. Just don’t leave it on delicate fabric overnight, an hour or so pre-treatment then wash in a delicates bag.

Beck

I recently bought this spray that has worked amazingly. It’s non-toxic and eco-friendly. I always have the issue of getting makeup on my coats and shirt collars. It’s called RepelWell Apparel Protect Stain and Water Repellent Spray.

Nicole

You had me at olives and chips. YUM!

Anonymous

But then you have to put sunscreen on your back. Am I the only one who has this as their first thought when seeing tops with a low back?

Bobby

No, my first thought as well. I can’t even wear things like that, much as I’d like to.

Water

I am ALWAYS thinking about sunblock, sunburns, sweat, necessary layers of undergarments, my bra straps showing because I can’t go strapless. For all these reason, I don’t wear sundresses or strappy tank tops. I want sun protection in the summer, not sun exposure.

Cynthia

I fell in love with the embroidered raffia bag, but way out of my price range.

Leah

I have some recs! For jean shorts, Levi’s 94 Baggy Shorts are amazing, especially if you’re pear shaped. For strappy sandals, I have been living in the Crocs Miami Thong Flip sandal here in Austin. They are very comfortable.

Mandy

I love these Sézane posts. I have always been very happy with my purchases. The clothing is unique without being impractical. I do think it’s 100% okay to go braless. I work in as an attorney during the week. When I am in court, it’s not allowed. But you better believe on my office days and weekends, I NEVER wear a bra. And no, I don’t have perky young boobs. I have shaggy 32DD boobs that hang from attempting to breast feed. I don’t care.

Rebecca

I wish for the following: that I could wear Sézane (I’m a chemist so it would be a colossal waste of money), that I lived somewhere that people dress up a week bit (NM is beyond relaxed all the time), that my 50 year old body looked like it did 10 years ago so that these adorable, fitted pieces would look good, and, finally, that it wasn’t so dang spendy. That is all. Rant over. Xoxo

Penny

Same…

Sasha from Montana

I feel like, based on many similar comments, we need a post of beautiful clothes that got these criteria. Practical ish, lovely on middle aged bodies of all sorts, don’t need a special bra or have cut outs that require sunscreen, come in a lower price range. Obviously – anything presented still wouldn’t suit someone, but I think many of us would jump for joy.

Cindy

Jess I just bought Cakes for a wedding. I’m nervous though-do they last all day?

Jess

As long as they’re under a tight top that holds them in place.

Hilary

Hi Cindy! I was influenced to buy Cakes and now regularly wear them with a linen shift dress- the kind of dress that doesn’t touch me anywhere. I was terrified the Cakes would just flop off while shopping, but they stayed put! I’ve worn them a bunch since and nothing but good things to say.

Kim

I have nippies (similar) and I wear them whenever I have to wear something where I can’t wear a bra. I go to alot of galas and wear alot of gowns). They work really well and after awhile I forget I have them on. I’ve had the same pair about 4 years. I just wash them with soap and water and put them back in the case after wearing. I just replaced them with a new pair because the adhesive was starting to wear off on the old pair. My breasts are on the smaller side, but have survivied many years of breastfeeding and have the nipples to show it. I would say give them a try.

Joy

All of your Sezane posts kill me! I would dress head-to-toe Sezane if I could. Off to search for some dupes or secondhand…

Julie

Same, if you find any good ones, please share!

Sasha from Montana

https://www.mychicobsession.com/sezane-dupes/ If you google dupes for sezanne, tons of blogs come up, all with lots of alternatives. Are they going to be fast fashion? I think so.

jill

all these pieces are very frilly and ultra-feminine. not really my style. also $75 for a t-shirt? jeepers. another good for her, not for me.

Robin

These are cute but the pictures (especially #3) look really aggressively altered to me. Could it be just her pose? Maybe I’m seeing things but looking at these just reminds me I really prefer brands who showcase the beauty of their clothes on a range of bodies.

Sai

I honestly don’t know whether the photos are altered or not, but something that has always bothered me about sezane is the lack of body shape variety in their models and while showcasing their clothes. If someone can point me to a Curvy body in Sezane, I’d be thrilled.

Kat

Sezane is well-known for a few things: 1. having only skinny models, 2. never showing the garment fully (models will be lounging or hunched over and good luck seeing the back of the item), and 3. color grading their product photos so they’re no longer accurate. That said…I do love the handful of things I’ve purchased there. Check out the Sezane subreddit for actual photos on real people and to ask advice if you have questions.

Sarah

I have always admired Sezanne clothes from afar. They are so beautiful and seem so well made. I often find myself feeling a little puzzled about how women make some of the clothes work in terms of undergarments. I love that some of us are loud and proud with the nipples these days but, post-nursing, I’m not there yet. Is everyone wearing those stickers? Just letting their bra straps show? And then the skirts seem short for sitting or playing, are we wearing shorts under them? Would love any practical insight from someone who’s figured any of that out!

Katie S.

boob tape/pasties and shorts! Every once in a while a cute, intentional bralette if it matches.

JAK

I was just thinking the same thing while looking at the pointelle tank, it is so chic but def looks less chic with a bra strap poking out. So whats the best pasties that people are wearing with them? I’m just not confident enough to go completely braless which means I miss out on some very cool looking tops and dresses and I’d like to make some changes going forward. My current solution is buying the uniqlo shirts that have the built in bra, I have two and really get a lot of use out of them when summer rolls around. As for your question around short skirts, I wear bike shorts underneath them (or the very thin ultalight cooling nude color ones from jockey) and then go about my day. Also wearing bike shorts helps with chafing too.

Joanna Goddard

I love the Pepper strapless bras and wear them all the time with T-shirts or tighter sweaters: https://go.shopmy.us/p-57946449 (not that you need a strapless bra with a T-shirt, but I love the shape/silhouette of them)

Jess

I am a “Cakes” evangelist! They’re silicone circles/nip covers that changed the clothes I wear, seriously. I love them because they’re not sticky (I’m allergic to most adhesives) but they hide the nips. You can wear them in a thinner bra for more coverage or a tight fitted top.

lll

these clothes are made for smaller women, with smaller chests. sezane doesn’t even try to pretend otherwise.

Lou

This is not a solve for everyone’s taste but I buy bras in cute colors with thinner straps (I have a larger size but still find cute thin straps) or with lace backs etc and then I just let the straps hang out as though completely planned and on purpose. My boobs do not live outside of a bra, I love cute bras even in my large boob sizes and I cannot handle the feeling of large breasts swaying in the breeze or the jiggle when I run upstairs because I’m late, it’s actually painful so I am an all day everyday bra girl. (obviously if this isn’t your thing totally fine but I love lingerie and I feel way more comfy in bras!)

Kim

I personally think you should find the comfiest bra you can (I really like EB, they are $ but I have sensory issues and I don’t even notice I’m wearing a bra sometimes.) I can’t wear a miniskirt dress and sit or bend over. But you can wear bike shorts or women’s boxer briefs.. You’re a mom. You can do whatever you want and you shouldn’t worry too much of what other people think. Dress for your comfort.

Janean

Something I’ve been challenging myself with for years is… why do I/we need to hide evidence of wearing bras and underwear? Like panty lines are bad because… “Gasp! She has on underwear!” I feel this shame has been projected on women and I am actively rejecting this with each outfit. Now sometimes the extra strap adds visual clutter that gets in the way of the look but that’s different than being “bad” for having a body that wears undergarments that might show. I hope sharing this helps you reframe and feel more confident.

Erica

I’m so thankful for this discussion! This is a question I have ALL THE TIME. “How is everyone else wearing these cute clothes without their bra lines/straps ruining the lines?” Does anyone else struggle with that weird curling thing that happens on the edges of bra cups and creates a line under a shirt? I’ve spent my whole life feeling like I was missing something. And my boobs just aren’t comfortable to go braless. I have D-cups that get hot and floppy without some containment, especially not that I’ve had two kids.

Sasha from Montana

I think I’m sezannes size demographic (most certainly not their economic tho), and I wear exclusively bra bralettes or sports bras (no bras come in a cup size that fits me, including Pepper or other small bra companies). If I’m wearing a dress or tank with Spagetti straps I just choose a bralette with straps that most closely match, and don’t worry about it. For dresses I always wear bike shorts. Comfort is most important to me. If it’s fussy, it’s not happening. I realize that the bralette solution won’t work for larger chests tho.

Ruth

Sezane always nails effortless but pretty. Love all these pieces, especially the tops!

Briana

Cute sandals, but I wish Sezane would do half sizes. I’ve learned the hard way that their shoes never fit me :(

Amy

I second this!

Jess

I am a firm 7.5, not a 7 or 8! Drives me crazy when shoe companies do that.

Kari

It seems like the model would have benefited from a half size too, her toes are coming off the end.

sarah

to be fair, they don’t appear to fit the model in the photo either.

Chickie Baby

All of these all great for summer, but I’ve gotta weigh in: “Finally, cut-offs always look cool and 70’s.” Sure, they do, but as someone who remembers the 1970’s, I can guarantee that nobody spent $125 on cut-offs in that decade. Got an old pair of jeans? Cut the legs at mid-thigh and let fray over time, and there you go: true cut-off jeans. If you are not gutsy enough to cut off a pair you already own, thrift stores always have jeans. $100+ for cut-offs…good grief!

Another 70’s girl here. I was lucky, I had an older brother who just kept growing and I got his old jeans. It took forever to get a pair of new Levis to the worn in stage and his came to me perfectly worn in.

Wind the clock

yes, also shaking my head and wondering who pays big bucks for cut-offs? and why? You’re supposed to make them from your old jeans. This is the way.

Sar

I try not to yuck another woman’s yum, but I must agree. I get splurging on a piece once in a while, but cut-offs, of all things? At least in my part of Canada, thrift stores are glutted with denim to customize, and the MOST expensive would be about $25 – about $8-9 is average! I’d save a pair from the landfill and save for something less common, but to each their own.

PNW GRATEFUL

Right on ! :). Loved our real cut offs in the 70s !!! It’s all we wore in summer. With “surfer shirts ” The boys’ tees with wide horizontal stripes Remember it like it was yesterday.

we bought beat up jeans at goodwill and cut them off. amused when designers started stealing the idea and charging a lot.

It’s a sponsored post. I can usually never afford the stuff, but the pictures are good outfit inspo.

Very very cute clothes!!! I’m on no new summer clothes. It’s just impossible to wear them out, summer is so short. So this has been my uniform for quite a while. But here’s my favorites: Old Navy athletic short dresses, with built in bra and racer back. I have black, lavender and red. Over bike shorts, perfect for just about anything that comes my way. Cotton tank tops and bike shorts. No thigh rub!! Cool, comfy, can do anything in this very practical choice. Light weight rail road stripe overalls over a tank. Feels fresh and a little bit stylish. Long floral (chrysanthemums!!) 90s style slip dress. Winona Ryder 1995 vibes, fun for a date night. And finally, some hand me down cut off jean shorts + my favorite sky blue t shirt from Patagonia.

I am on the hunt for lightweight overalls! I feel like so many are heavy and I mostly want to wear them in summer. I am trying very hard to thrift some instead of buying new, fingers crossed.

I have two pairs that are much lighter denim – one is a pale blue over sized pair from about 6 years ago, from The Gap. The others are a pair i got for my bday this year from Amazon.

The very last thumb nail is the wrong one, should be a cute red polka dot dress!

thanks for the catch!

You guys are quick!!! ;)

Love a sandal that hits below the ankle – those would go with everything! I have a small foot and a wide ankle, and that gives me sizing trouble sometimes – I like the odds that these would fit. My main summer staples are my much-taller partner’s tops worn as dresses, and actual trapeze dresses. If Mia Farrow wore it in Rosemary’s Baby, I say we should, too.

Erin

I love me a barely decent dress come summer! Sometimes, I’ll just throw my bikini bottom underneath so I don’t care if it goes up a bit.

Katie

Erin, I love how you put it – “I love me a barely decent dress come summer!” YESSSS. We have one life to live. Why not have some fun with it?
