Seven Spring Pieces

Did you know there are only 22 days until spring? ‘Til cherry blossoms and butterflies and no more snow? To get in the mood, here are seven styles we’re excited to wear, in partnership with Nordstrom…
1. A flowy Dôen-esque shirt. (Madewell has a bunch, too.)
2. A pretty dress to wear to dinner dates or drinks with friends.
3. A timeless jacket to wear all spring, then all fall, for years — how chic is the back of this one? Here’s a good plus-sized option, too.
4. A cozy sweater to pull on during cool evenings. Really love this one.
5. White jeans, plus a cream top for stick-of-butter dressing.
6. Red shoes for a pop of color on everyday adventures.
7. And a trusty bag to carry a good book, sunglasses, and the best-smelling sunscreen.
What would you wear? I just pulled my favorite sandals out of the closet. xoxo

38 commentsAs an alternative to red sneakers, on a smaller budget, I’d like to suggest red socks! Also a red bandanna-style scarf would be great.
LOL jealous of those that get at least a taste of spring this month. I’ve got a solid 2-2.5 months before it comes here…
@Joanna Goddard now we’re gonna need to see that prom dress ha !
This would make a great post! What you wore to prom and what you’d wear now. We are in the midst of shopping for prom attire for my daughter. She hates all the current styles and would like something more classic and modest without looking like she’s going to “Amish prom”. Anything she loves is WAY over our budget. I’ve spent about 5 hours hunting for dresses and suits and it’s getting tiresome.
I love the red sneakers! I’m mostly looking forward to wearing fewer layers. It’s been cold here for weeks. I’m excited that I will soon be wearing my gardening gloves and mud boots. I’m looking at seed catalogs and planning what I will plant first.
I’m forever in doubt when it comes to spring coats vs long flowy dresses: whats the right lenght for the coat??In my mind go either short (waist lenght) or long….is there a universe where other coats could work too? Especially in the UK, when the weather can change fast you need a fit for all spring jacket which goes with everyhing.
already seeing some cherry blossoms here in tokyo! so pretty. it was crazy, snow one week and then 24c the next and the first rainy day in a while. i cant wait for spring, although that means japanese summer is next, which i’m…less than excited for( ; ; )
Sadly I want to comment that Madewell completley ripped off Doen and that is NOT ok.
Completely, and so does Quince. They rip off Clare V too. It would be nice to have a post on directly supporting rad (especially women and BIPOC owned) brands for those that are able to invest in them. I totally get the price point issue though. Buying resale or second hand is also a great way to de-invest from the fashion thieves and fast fashionistas, while representing the original design folks.
Doen re-created a Victorian blouse. This style was around in the 70s and 90s too.
None of these styles are unique to Doen, Clare V, or any other retailer. Styles repeat from decade to decade. Ruffled blouses have been around forever, my mother was wearing them in the 1960’s. That style is everywhere this spring.
People have been noticing….
I love the fashion posts, I rarely have time to pick things out in reasonable ways so it is so helpful getting ideas handed to me! Love Nordstrom and easy links!
Here in Austin, we’ve been in the high 80s, so I’m wishful for “spring” weather, too.
Fellow Austinite here. I work shorts and a tank today and I was still hot!
Love the fashion posts! Thanks Cup of Jo! Those woven shoes are swoon!!
I’ve lusted after that woven Madewell tote for months—so glad it’s back in stock! And we’ve had such a mild winter here in Utah that it was almost matter of denial (it is WINTER, damnit!!) more than utility to put them away, but my Nisolo huaraches seem to be winking at me from my closet.
My baby is due the day before spring starts, and I’m sooo excited! Spring and summer are absolutely lovely life-giving seasons where I live (after the big long dark damp season, PNW) and it’s going to be so good having parental leave with my husband and our son! Probably going to need a little postpartum wardrobe refresh, too :)
Omg mine too!! I’m already daydreaming about all the things I’m going to wear.
My son was born in PDX on March 1 and I have such fond memories of seeing the cherry blossoms while my newborn snuggled on my chest. It’s wonderful to see the world come back to life during such a happy time.
OK, need to see a picture of you in your prom dress!
Came here to say this! Seconded!
Can’t wait to shop for clothes for myself again 😅 We are furnishing our house (and doing little projects like wallpaper, backyard drainage, a new KING bed!) and also going through infertility treatments, all of which is very expensive. So I am putting off buying clothing for myself until our spending is a little less out of control!
I will never stop saying that our king bed was the best thing I’ve ever done for our home, sleep, comfort, sanity, happiness and I’m so excited for you to join the club!
Thank you for this post. All I have to do is to wait until Nov/ Dec for the Madewell 50% off sale for that woven bag- excellent for practicing strategic depravation. I recently found out they’re not genocidal/ Gaza. Win win.
Oh that is so good to read!! (And I’m engaging in the same practice. False scarcity < considered purchases!)
Have you checked Poshmark or Depop yet? If Madewell had any similar bags in the past (which they often do), you might be able to find one sooner that’s cheaper and secondhand!
Omg wear the green striped dress with the red flats and you will have American Girl Kirsten’s summer dress!! all you will need is a straw hat.
You’re right. I copied Kirsten’s summer dress and made it for my girls 30 years ago.
Then you can go “save the day.”
Hi Sarah, have you read AG/ older doll books? I loved the Josefina books so much.
You are right. I copied Kirsten’s summer dress and made it for my girls 30 years ago.
I LOVE THAT YOU NOTICED THIS! And it explains why I was drawn to the green one.
Sarah, this comment made me so happy! American Girl dolls are the best. Both my daughters are reading the books and they are hooked. It’s such a throw back to my childhood!
Sarah, yes I thought the same! Love it.
Sarah B good eye!!! A much easier look to replicate than her Santa Lucia candle crown.
I love how approximately 90% of the comments thus far are niche nostalgia for American girl dolls
https://nordstrom.sjv.io/aN1oyZ I was just admiring this style. Looks comfy and perfect with that striped dress.
